ABSTRACT

The data of solar radiations are not easily available especially i n developing countries like Pakistan. The data required for estimation of solar radiation is also not easily available in our country. Thus, different models are used for the measurement and determination of global solar radiation at different locations using different parameters. For Pakistan, very limited data is available at only five locations namely Quetta. Karachi, Multan, Lahore and Peshawar . These locations have differential features depending upon their geographical location . This study was carried out t o estimate global solar radiation using models from temperature data acquired from Pakistan Meteorological Department. The model constants were determined u sing linear regression method . The maximum , minimum and average model estimated global solar radiation level from 1st August to 31st October, 2017 were 7879, 55 I 7 and 5669
W/m2/day against the measured values of 8019, 5407 and 6769 W/m 2/day with an error
of 0.53 respectively. Since the temperature data was used for estimation of solar radiations. However, other parameters may give less error but the data is not easily accessible and not measured in most places. It is concluded that the proposed model given acceptable estimations of solar radiations with ± 53 % error.
