ABSTRACT

The Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANENT) is a special class of wireless ad-hoc network proposed for intelligent transportation system to facilitate the drivers. The network of VANET is composed of wireless communication system installed on the vehicles and many access points deployed at different locations on the streets and roads. The seamless communication between vehicles at diverse network conditions is extremely important. However. frequent network disconnections due to various factors such a high mobility. extreme whether etc. could results in the degraded performance of such network and might results serious mishaps on the road. The data between vehicle is mainly transmitted using both single and multipath routing and each one ha their own advantages and disadvantages. In this research, we simulate and compare the performance of both single and multipath routing in VANET at
different network scenarios to analyze the varying network behavior. The simulation is carried out using network simulator NS-2 with carefully designed different network scenarios. The obtained results conform the advantages of using multipath routing over single path routing and shown that with the slight overhead of maintaining multipath a significance performance enhancements can be achieved in terms of throughput and packet delivery delay. The simulation results might be useful for designing efficient routing protocols for VANET.
