ABSTRACT

Many applications such as live-streaming and online games require timeliness of data transmission when compared with the reliability in order to deal with such applications transport layer of the internet model provides the protocol such as transmission control protocol (TCP) and datagram protocol (UDP). TCP provides the reliability, however for the real-time delivery of data it has issue such as longer delay. UDP provides the fast transmission, however it increase the network congestion.

Nowadays the aspect of protocol design is the fast data transmission in streaming data applications. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has proposed a new protocol called the DCCP for congestion control as well as the fast data transmission rate. DCCP is at peak for the researchers due to its lightweight and simple design. This thesis evaluates the performance of DCCP protocol. In order to see its performance it is compared with the TCP. The experiments are carried on scenario of 8 nodes, 32 nodes as well on the scenario where the links are redundant. In all of the experiments the throughput generated by DCCP
is greater than TCP.
