ABSTRACT
Pakistans is a developing country and its development also depends upon its transport facilities. Various modes of transportation are used i n Pakistan like airways, railways waterways and roadways. Roadways plays very vital role in the development of Pakistan as well as its economic growth. Many highways and the motorways are used for transport of the goods as well as people as passengers. Highways also plays important role in the progress and economic growth because transportation.
of these goods are made thousands of kilometers from villages and towns to mega cities with reasonable amount of money. The transportation infrastructure comprises of multi modal network, sound policies, regulations, along with competent management for efficient and economic growth and sustainable future resources. The infrastructure of transportation facilitate safe journey to people
from point of origin to point of destination as well as safe transportation of goods.
Pakistan is located in South Asia bordering with China in the north, lran m Southwest, India in east, Indian Ocean in south and Afghanistan in west. Pakistan is spread over an area of 796096 km2 • The country is divided in urban and rural settlements. The people travel from rural areas to urban areas in search of education, employment opportunities and medical facilities. A study was conducted on Hyderabad-Karachi M-9 Motorway section for evaluation of road traffic accidents (RTAs). The objectives of the survey are to collect the data of traffic accidents including the human and property losses and evaluating the causes of RTAs.
The six months (February to July, 2017) data has revealed that total 17 RTAs occurred on the motorway. In those RTAs, 15 people lost their lives and 54 persons were got injured. In addition to this 30vehicles were damaged during the reported time. It is concluded from the study that there exits lot of risk to every stakeholder whether they are pedestrians or vehicular users on the motorway.
