General note ABSTRACT

The impact of the design makes more attractive website interface' there are different
types of design that are used according to need of company. In order to improve interactivity of websites, websites should be designed using current design trends. In this research current graphics design trends of websites are compiled for users of Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology, Nawabshah (QUEST). The aim of this study is to apply the currents design trends on QUEST website and also compare newer version and existing version of QUEST website from usability perspective in order to recommend the better current design trends for the websites. The experimental study with pre-test and post-test questionnaires (using system usability scale) along with usability attributes (effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction) were designed. Total 260 undergraduate and postgraduate students from four different departments of QUEST participated in the experimental study. Pre-test questionnaire was filled by the students before starting the usability testing for collecting their demographic data. Afterwards, usability test was conducted where the participants performed four selected tasks (1. Find quick access bar menu, 2. Find the undergraduate results, 3. Find the postgraduate results and 4. Find the tender and notice). The time was recorded for each task automatically. Students then filled the post-test questionnaire in order to gather their views about newer version and existing version. The outcome show that the newer version is the best in terms of task completion time (efficiency), task completion rate (effectiveness) and post-test questionnaires results (satisfaction). It can be concluded from the study that the current deign trends should essentially be followed while
designing the websites in order to improve their usability.

Keywords: Modern Design Trends, Usability, System Usability Scale (SUS).
