| General note | ABSTRACT

Instability problems may occur in road embankments located in katcha regions of Sindh during floods. Research is based on an example of Flood 2010 in north region of Sindh by failure of Thori Bund which not only fail the system of Irrigation but massive destruction comes in result due to failure of River Levee. Regarding to this major accident, with the help of research analyse and measure the stability of existing Bunds to avoid the flood problem. In this sense we took an example of road slope in katcha region of Sindh near Sehwan bridge which works as bund during flood, to find the stability researcher took soil samples from selected site and measure by in situ tests and labority tests. It includes dry density test, sieve analysis, permeability test, triaxial test and Atterbergs limits than measured values we put in Plaxis software which works on Finite Element Method, to compare the found results analysis also calculate analytically.
stability of road embankment.

Through Plaxis 2D software, selected area for study shows satisfactory results with
Factor of Safety 1.3 at present water level (3 m below ground level), selected case study also warn about flood water level is dangerous for stability of structure when it comes
2
at 7m above ground level, at that level pore water pressure increased at 170 KN/m.
Further, Analytical analysis shows factor of safety 1.26 at 4m water level above ground level which shows almost same results as compare to computer based study.

|
