General note

ABSTRACT

The world of composite materials is continuously improving by the introduction of new materials and methods with improved mechanical characteristics in modem engineering applications. The achievement of better mechanical properties in the development of composite materials is the crucial issue of ongoing research domain. The identical properties of composite materials are considered to be light weight, high heat resistance and less cost of production. These materials are used in the design and development of aerodynamics systems, sport cars (formula cars) and wind energy systems, where weights, strength along with resistance to oxidation are the main issues. Researchers are focusing on new type of composite materials like textile composites for defense integrated antennas (within the soldier's garment and armors in ballistic protection) transportation, construction, power generation sectors, rail and automobile machine manufacturing.
In this research work composite material specimens have been developed by Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding system (VARTM). This VARTM has been developed locally in the mechanical engineering department. Resin infusion/transfer Mould is simple in nature, vacuum is developed by vacuum pump so that resin can properly be transferred at appropriate rate. The fabric material of different weave forms of 0190° and ±45° will be placed layer by layer in the Mould to maintain its orientation; thereafter resin will be transferred to the Mould. The test specimens were developed in two groups by changing the orientation of cotton fiber whereas the resin material vinyl ester was used thought the development. During test it was found that weave orientation of the reinforced material p l ay very important role in the development of composite material. It was observed that the Specimens of 2/2 satin 0/90 orientation possess improved mechanical properties such as Tensile [N], Tensile Strength [MPa], M OE [MPa] and Mod u l us of rigidity [C] over the
specimens of 2/2 satin ±45° orientation as shown in chapter of results and
discussion.
