General note ABSTRACT

Silty soils are fine-grained soil having low strength, minimal bearing capacity with high swelling potential and are susceptible to large settlements and deformations with time especially when located in areas of high water table.
District Nawabshah because of its popularity in the hottest and weather beaten region of Pakistan makes its native silty type soils more meager to use without any effort. Furthermore the harsh climates results in yearly maintenance of its infrastructure facilities

For this purpose, an experimental program was undertaken to investigate the feasible use of granular soil (fine aggregates) on the strength and mechanical behavior of silty soil. In the design m ix proportion, the silty soil was replaced by J O to 40% of granular soil, with 5% increment.
The Sieve analysis, Consistency limits, Specific gravity, Modified Proctor compaction. Soaked and Un-soaked CBR, Shear strength parameters and Saturated and Un saturated Hydraulic conductivity tests were conducted for silt-granular stabilized soils. The most common improving properties such as better soil gradation. Reduction in plasticity index, OMC, swelling potential, increase in durability and strength in both dry and wet situations were achieved in this study through laboratory investigation.
The result show that 10 to 40% replacement of silty soil with granular soil increased the MOD, specific gravity, soaked-, permeability and shear strength Parameters.
This behavior of the geotechnical properties of the silty soil when blended with granular soil indicates that the granular soil is a a suitable modifier for fine grained soils and resourcefully can be used for road subgrades and building foundations.
