| General note | Browser is a vital resource to use web, it mediates between online data and user. Ups<br/>and downs are observed in the usage of web browsers. Usage variation is affected by<br/>security, availability, performance, user interface, fault-tolerance, memory<br/>management, etc.<br/>Different methods are used to select finest choice. First, a pre-usage survey is used to<br/>collect information from users on the basis of their previous web browser usage<br/>experience then practical tasks are given to sample size and finally users are asked<br/>about the change in their opinion after practical use of selected categories of<br/>browsers. Data will be collected through Questionnaire. This survey will be carried<br/>out in computer laboratory of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Campus Dadu,<br/>University of Sindh. Questionnaire is based on easiness of availability, simplicity in<br/>usage, rapid response of browsers, bookmark, etc, containing dichotomous and<br/>multiple choice questions. Group wise and collective results are drawn at the end.<br/>This is paper and pen based survey involving the use of computers as well. It is<br/>purely expository survey where the evaluator tries to find the best browser. As<br/>another contribution we have provided a comparative study of five well-known<br/>browsers. All five browsers are installed on computer and loading time of websites is<br/>calculated by the use of online tool, 50 websites from five different categories i-e<br/>Universities, E-commerce, Software, Books and Sports were selected. Least loading<br/>time of five selected web browsers i-e Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet<br/>Explorer, Opera and Safari is calculated. Few more aspects of research are selected<br/>to check installation time, password management and memory usage on different<br/>operating systems and also on different hardware configurations. Results of this<br/>research will be fruitful for the web surfers to select most productive web browser<br/>and also give clue to web browser companies to add required attributes in their<br/>relevant product.<br/><br/>xiii<br/> |
