500 _aPERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF LEACH & LEACH-C ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS ABSTRACT Wireless Sensor network is a multitude technology. It. due to its dynamic services and wide range ot- applicability, has adjusted itself in very vast areas of interests, such as continuous surveillance, handy use in medical field and home automation: due to these features. WSN has become one of the most attractive area for researchers in the last few years. It is composed of tiny sensing devices, called motes, which sense a phenomenon according to a pre-defined mechanism. These motes have very limited capabilities in respects Of energy and computational power. To efficiently utilize the available Resources to a sensor node in a WSN, many researchers have proposed and developed many energy efficient routing protocols. But in spite of all those developments, there are still very much of limitations. Among all those limitations, energy efficient utilization is on top in the priority solution list in this area. This thesis simulates LEACH and LEACH-C protocols to identify the factors which inefficiently exhaust the energy of the TO enjoy the distributiveness and self-organization of the network in LEACH protocol rather than the centralized approach of LEACH-C protocol, this study concludes that if fair cluster formation mechanism is introduced in addition to relying on an energy efficient NIAC Layer protocol, the performance of LEACH protocol can be further improved. Moreover, both the protocols provide better support of Real-time data (UDP flow) than Non Real- Time data (TCP flow).
