<subfield code="a">ABSTRACT

Existence of all living organism depends on water. Contamination of water can cause the enormous threat to human well being. The experimental work was carried to determine the quality of ground water of twelve locations of rural area in Tehsil Rajanpur. Ground water samples were collected	from selected locations and preserved in containers. Laboratory tests of samples were performed using standard procedures. The results were analysed and exceeding parameters were identified which are above the acceptable limits with respect to locations. The effect of contamination on human health was highlighted and control measures were suggested. It was observed that all physical parameters are with in the WHO and NEQs standards at all locations. Most of the chemical parameters arc also within the limits excluding Arsenic, Calcium and Sulphate. In case of Arsenic, 9 out of 12 samples were found beyond WHO standards ,the increased percentage was up to 150%,400%,400%,400%, 150%, 150%, 150%, I 50%, l 50%for	location	Sikhaniwala, Mehrewala, Sehanwala, Rangpur, Kot Mithan city, BastiNazru, BastiAsni, Chak Jalal Pur (pull pathan) and QutabPul Hajipur road respectively. In case of calcium, 5 out of 12 samples were found beyond WHO standards, the increased percentage was up to 44% for location Murghai, I 2% for location BastiNazru, 17.33% for location BastiAsni, 76% for location BastiLakha and 49.33% for location Chak Jalal Pur (pull pathan).Tn case of Sulphate, 4 out of 12 samples were found beyond WHO standards the increased percentage was up to 30.8% for location Mehrewala, 37.6% for location Murghai,34.8% for location BastiLakha & 34 % for location Chak Jalal Pur (pull pathan ).Biological contamination including total coliform and fecal coliform are found positive at location Sehanwala, Rangpur, Shikarpur and BastiNazru. It is found from the study that due to exceeding limit of calcium, sulfate, arsenic and biological contamination, the idler effects due to consumption of contaminated water various diseases were found such as gastrointestinal upset, nu, fever, diarrhea, skin cancer, lungs, blue. baIdder, kidney, weakness, muscular cramping, numbness, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, problem in eye, dehydration and reproductive failure in t he people of Tc ·ii Rajanpur. The treatment system should be adopted to avoid diseases, such HS filtration unit lime or lime soda method, nano filtration unit.
