    <subfield code="a">ABSTRACT

The use of web portals for facilitating the stakeholders, specifically, the students in higher academic institution is on rise. These websites should be effective and easy to use as usability is an important aspect of a good software product. According to the literature review little work has been conducted for the usability evaluation of Pakistani universities websites. So. there was a need to conduct the usability evaluation of these
websites. This research study evaluated the usability of the selected public sector university websites through heuristics evaluation and usability testing methods. Initially, the existing website was assessed through heuristics evaluation and usability testing methods. Th usability problems found during this assessment were fixed by redeveloping the websites. The usability testing of the newly developed website was again conducted, and the results were compared. The results revealed that the newly developed website is more effective and efficient; moreover, the users were also more satisfied.</subfield>
