  <note>ABSTRACT

Performance improvement of database management systems is a complex task because of the increasing size of the data as well as the increasing demands of the organizations. Selection of a better optimization strategy which takes less execution time and consumes fewer resources is a difficult task which affects the overall performance of the database management system.

However, performance can be improved by selecting better optimization strategy. This thesis explains and compare as well as analysis the detail structures of the query optimization and query process steps which may affect the overall performance of the database management system which is requirement of the organization.
