  <note>ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to propose an alternative solution for supply of electricity to meet energy demand in the Quaid-e-Awam University College of Engineering, Science and Technology (QUCEST) Larkano at the time of load shedding hours. For that, the energy requirements of the college were determined through conducting energy audit with the inspection of power ratings of the appliances and help of multimeter. The existing electricity demand and cost was determined from utility bills, and fuel cost of diesel generators. PVsYsT software version 6.6.3 was used for the design of solar photovoltaic system to provide partial electricity to fulfill energy need of light appliances (718 kWh/day) in the college. The total connected load in the college was found 461 kW. The electricity demand was found maximum in the month of May and minimum in the month of January. SEPCO was found as the main provider of electricity to the college with a total unit consumption of 130,960 kWh/annum for the year 2016- 2017, and diesel generators as additional electricity supplier with the  total consumption of 44,955 liters. The total energy requirement (load of light appliances) for replacement with solar photovoltaic (partial solar) in the college was found of 718 kWh/day. The total estimated number of PV modules would be 596 with a unit cost of Rs.6.0/kWh. The volume of compressed air energy storage (CAES), which fulfill the energy needs in the college, was estimated to be 120 m3 at ?Obar pressure with the ambient pressure of one bar, which would produce the total estimated energy of 2,736.2MJ at a total cost of Rs.18.941 million.
