  <note>ABSTRACT

The electrical power system consists of generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The loss of power and energy i n distribute tion systems are more as compared to power and energy loss in transmission system. Therefore i t is important to examine the various methods which are used for reducing power and energy loss in distribution systems. Examples for reducing power and energy loss in distribution systems are addition of new feeders for shifting some of load of the existing ng feeders, careful selection in the size and type of conductor required according to load demand and installation of shunt capacitors at suitable places i n distribut ion systems i n order to reduce the reactive power and hence the improvement in the power factor.

This thesis presents the implementation of an efficient approach for reducing the power and energy losses in distribution systems. It contains the survey of 1 1kV feeder for the causes of technical losses in distribution systems. For technical losses we have calculated node-to-node power flow analysis, voltage drops, power and energy loss of 11kV distribution feeder. In this survey we have identified the causes, significance and recommendations to reduce these losses on 1 1 kV distribution feeders. Technical losses may be decreased by: bifurcating the lengthy distribution feeders, proper selection in the type and size of conductors,, installation of shunt capacitor banks at suitable nodes in the distribution feeder and proper maintenance. I n this work we have
Chosen the 11 kV Bhitshah feeder, emanating from I 32 kV grid station Hala. Also some of the efficient methods and remedies are used for reducing technical loss at 11 kV Bbitsbah feeder. For designing the power distribution network a generalized
gram is used and takes results are taken through simulation by using the
•s software tenned as "FORAN A". Also the comparison of existing and em is given for the technical losses and voltage drops for the present
also for the specific periods i .e., two years, five years and ten years
