Small machine workshops pl ay a major role for economic development of any country as well as the keys for job providing organizations at the lower level. Keepingi n view the importance of small machine workshops, a stud y was conducted to assess and improve the production in these shops. Seven product ion factors namely machine, manpower, material, money, space, production and quality were assessed to see the impact of any improvement in machine shops for production. The scope of this research was mad e limited only small machine workshops of Nawabshah City. Two machine workshops as Small. scale industries of Nawabshah and QUEST machine shop were taken for this study,
and compared with each other.

It was found from this study that lack of skilied worker, improper utilization of machines, materials; workers were observed even low quality of work. These shortcomings are the e major hindrances for the prod uctivity improvement with relate to product and material consequently of small workshop as whole. Finall y some improvement strategy i n machine capability, space, inventory system, vocational training, material  utilization,  working conditions and safety are high  lighted on the basis of data and observations.
