    <subfield code="a">ABSTRACT

Energy is a basic need for humanity and development of any country pakistan.
facing acute energy crisis with a deficit of around 6000MW during summer season. The country's generating capacity falls well below demand. Therefore, the people of Pakistan are bearing the burden of 8 to 1 6 hours loadshedding. Load shedding can be red used by continuous power supply by means of reducing the gap between power supply and demand. This	gap can be reduced either by increasing the power production or by reducing the power demand. Increasing of power production requires
huge investment and time for development of new pl ants, whereas,	power demand
can easily be reduced by conservation of energy.
Buildings are one of the major consumers of energy in Pakistan. Both commercial and residential buildings account for about 53.6% of the total Pakistan energy
consumption according to Pakistan Energy Yearbook 2010. For reducing the demand of conventional electricity in the building of Energy and Environment Department, PY Panels with a total capacity of 2.88 kW was installed. The power produced from PY Panel was utilized i n laboratories of the department to reduce the dependency on national grid. Furthermore, daylighting was enhanced in the department through opening of windows. I t increased natural i l l u m i nation level inside the building of the department. This technique reduced t 6% of the total electrical load of the department (excluding air conditioners load). It was found from the study that the installation of PY Panels and daylight enhancing method could save 14168.41 k Wh of conventional electricity annually and also reduce 905 1 .4 kg of C02, 0.265 kg of CH4 and 0.046 kg
of N20.
