ABSTRACT
Attendance of employees play major role in any public or private organizations. Through attendance the organizations observe t he punctuality of their employees. To monitor the attendance record of teachers is becoming challenging these days. In order to cope the challenge, the Government of Sindh has introduced a Biometric Attendance management System in April 2016. This monitoring system has improved the teacher's attendance and it also improved the quality of education at government schools. In I st phase the biometric attendance system was implemented in 15 districts of Sindh. After getting the good results the system is operational now in the Sindh province. Before the implementation of biometric attendance system in government schools, the heads of schools were using manual system to maintain the attendance record of teaching and non-teaching staff. The manual attendance system is not secure and contains many flaws. For example, teachers may not follow the policy for the signature timing. Moreover, the teachers may also put signatures in advance. Biometric attendance system provides the suitable solutions for performance improvement at government schools. However, the biometric system still faces challenges in terms of its implementation and design.
This research provides a detailed study of the newly introduced biometric attendance system in Sindh province. The key weaknesses of the system are highlighted. On the basis of comments from the experts, a questionnaire is proposed. A detailed conclusion and suggestions for the improvement of the biometric system based on the questionnaire are presented.
